Ferasha Films

In 2008, inspired by my college trips to Rwanda and India, I founded Ferasha Films, a non-profit organization. While I initially envisioned documenting global stories, my path led me to powerful narratives closer to home. This shift culminated in "The Backyard Philly Project," a 2012 documentary I created alongside dedicated volunteers, chronicling the lives of four teenagers in Philadelphia's public housing.

The film, which won Best Feature Length Film at the 2013 Philadelphia Geek Awards, offers an intimate glimpse into Penn Town, an inner-city neighborhood. Through the lens of the Helping Hand Rescue Mission's tutoring and mentorship programs, we witnessed these teens' remarkable journeys of growth and transformation. The eight-month production, from October 2011 to June 2012, was enriched by footage the teenagers captured themselves using cameras we provided, adding authentic perspectives to their stories.

Today, Ferasha Films continues its mission under the leadership of Adam Bruckner, whose initial involvement inspired my work on The Backyard Philly Project.

  • "I have known Amanda Danziger for over a decade through our connection at the Helping Hand Rescue Mission, where I'm currently the Director. Amanda and her team worked to create a dynamic documentary about our Philly youth, and she was a role model and friend to those in our circle. Amanda is creative, organized, and has valuable workplace skills. Amanda is a visionary and has the talent to turn a dream into a reality. Amanda is kind, compassionate, and relatable, she is trustworthy and sincere. I would recommend her on the highest level."
